What If Today’s Circumstances Are Opening the Very Doors God Wants You to Walk Through?

Life has a funny way of surprising us. What starts off feeling like just another ordinary day might be setting the stage for something truly wonderful. In a recent uplifting message from Pastor Jon Hamilton at Central Assembly in Vero Beach, he reminded us that “sometimes daily circumstances determine our steps and open all the doors we need.” Isn’t that a beautiful thought? God often works through those everyday moments that may be inconvenient or seem inconsequential. The real question is, are we open to seeing those opportunities?

In this blog, we’ll explore how even the most ordinary circumstances can create wonderful opportunities that can truly change our lives, or the life of someone else. We’ll also talk about the value of connecting with those we might be tempted to shy away from and how humility can unlock doors that pride may close. To dive deeper into these ideas, I invite you to check out the full message by clicking play on the video below. Pastor Jon Hamilton’s insights will inspire you to recognize and embrace the beautiful opportunities that God places along your journey.

The Opportunity to Change a Life Begins with Engagement

In John 4, Jesus finds Himself tired from his journey, taking a rest near a well. Even in that moment of weariness, He sees a wonderful opportunity, one that will not only change one woman’s life but also touch the hearts of an entire town.

He didn’t wait for the perfect moment. Instead He engaged, and that made all the difference.

The beautiful truth is that we are considered God’s anointed and called—even on days when we feel less than ready. You don’t need to be fully rested, brimming with confidence, or perfectly put-together to be used by God. What truly matters is your willingness to engage with the people He places in your path.

Don’t underestimate what God can do through one conversation, even in an “ordinary” moment.

Engage Those You Might Be Tempted to Avoid

Jesus chose to walk right through Samaria, unlike many Jews of His time who preferred to take a detour. He didn’t shy away from those with different beliefs or complicated stories; instead, He actively sought them out. Why did He do this? Because often, the opportunities to share about the Kingdom appear in the form of challenging conversations with people we might feel hesitant to approach. That prickly coworker, neighbor, or family member you find yourself wanting to avoid? They just might be the person God is gently nudging you to connect with, not through arguments or debates but with genuine kindness, honesty, and humility.

Engagement is how the Gospel moves. Avoidance is how it gets stuck.

Humility Opens Doors—Pride Closes Them

The woman at the well anticipated rejection, but Jesus pleasantly surprised her with his humility. He asked her for water and took the time to truly listen. His gracious response made a huge difference. That simple act of humility opened the door for an incredible transformation.

Today, many people expect Christians to argue or pass judgment. However, when we choose to surprise them with our humility, the conversation changes entirely.

Humility opens Kingdom doors. Pride shuts them.

Look for “Jesus Moments” in the Middle of Your Routine

You don’t need a grand stage or a shiny microphone to make a difference in someone’s life. All you truly need is awareness and a willingness to connect in everyday moments. Take a moment to reflect:

  • Who is God placing in my path today?
  • Where can I choose to be fully present instead of getting caught up in distractions?
  • What if that unexpected interruption is actually an important opportunity?

Jesus wasn’t caught up in making a point; He was all about building connections. His focus was more on welcoming a soul than winning an argument. What if we approached our conversations that way?

Final Thought: Stop Waiting—Start Engaging

You might be thinking, “One day, I’ll be ready to do something meaningful.” However, Jesus didn’t ask us to wait for the perfect moment; He simply said, Go. No matter where you are today—whether at work, at home, in a waiting room, or in line at the grocery store—there’s likely someone nearby who could really use some encouragement, hope, or just a friendly smile.

Let’s not overlook the opportunities right in front of us while waiting for “someday” to arrive. The door might already be wide open, and the conversation may have already begun. The difference you hope to create could start with a simple “Hello.”

The opportunity to change a life begins with engagement.
