Emergency Medical Consultants located in Port St Lucie FL, will be hosting our Annual Free CPR Class for Families and Friends in hopes that you can share the event with your community Just to give a little background on our business, EMC is a local medical training company based in Port St. Lucie since 1988 – we are one of the state training centers for the American Heart Association and provide programs across the country. We teach various programs both for medical licensed professionals (i.e. Cardiac, Trauma, EKG), for those wanting to become licensed professionals (i.e. Professional CPR, EKG, Phlebotomy), and for the general public (i.e. CPR, First Aid).
The Summer Safety Course is called Project Kid-Keeper. This 2-hour free program began over 30 years ago by the owner of EMC (Shaun Fix), a retired Fire Captain and Paramedic. After helping to treat 13 children who drowned while working at Fire Rescue and Emergency departments, he realized 2 things: (a) Education on prevention was/is essential for parents and especially grandparents who were not used to having children in the home; (b) If there was an emergency and no one knew how to perform simple CPR before the paramedic arrived, the chance of the child surviving was very low… This holds true for adults who may suffer a heart attack or other medical emergencies as well.
This was the momentum for us starting these free programs and presenting them each summer. This program is from the American Heart Association- It is designed for the general public. It teaches participants the basic skills necessary to help a victim who chokes, stops breathing, or has no heartbeat for the critical minutes before a professional Emergency team arrives (911). There is no test- students will learn, review, and practice on manikins.
While the main focus of this program is child and infant emergencies, Adult skills can be practiced by anyone who would like to practice this skill at the end of the course. Anyone can sign up for the class by calling our office at 772-878-3085 or visiting our website https://emcmedicaltraining.com/freecpr/.
