Are You Living Free or Busier Than You Want to Be?

Calendar Full Busy Life

Life can fill up quickly…between work, family, appointments, responsibilities, and the constant buzz of notifications, it’s easy to spend every day moving from one task to the next. We stay busy because we might believe there’s no other choice, but somewhere along the way, we can lose sight of the freedom Jesus came to give us.

Jesus said,

“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” — John 8:36 ,NIV

One of the ways that freedom should show up in our lives is having the peace of knowing we don’t have to carry the weight of guilt, fear, or the pressure to prove ourselves. It’s the freedom to rest in who we are because of whose we are.

Busy Doesn’t Always Mean Fruitful

Many of the things filling our schedules are good things: serving others, caring for our families, working hard, and showing up where we’re needed. The story of Mary and Martha reminds us that even good things can distract us from what matters most. When Jesus visited their home, Martha was busy serving while Mary chose to sit at His feet and listen. Martha wasn’t rebuked for serving; she was gently reminded that her anxious heart had pulled her away from simply being with Jesus.

Jesus said,

“Martha, Martha… you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one” —Luke 10:41–42, NIV

It’s a picture many of us know well. We fill our days with meaningful responsibilities, yet our hearts can still feel hurried and worn. Jesus invites us to let time in His presence shape everything else we do.

What Is Driving Your Pace?

Take a moment to ask yourself:

Am I living from God’s peace, or am I running on the pressure to keep up?

Our schedules can easily become driven by expectations (our own or someone else’s.) We can believe our value comes from how much we accomplish, but God has never measured our worth that way.

His grace reminds us that we are already loved, already accepted, and already His.

Living in the Freedom Jesus Offers

Freedom doesn’t always mean doing less. Sometimes it means carrying less. It means releasing the need to control everything, trusting God with what remains unfinished, and making room to hear His voice in the middle of everyday life.

Maybe today that looks like putting your phone down for a few minutes, taking a walk, opening your Bible, or simply sitting quietly in prayer. Small moments spent with God have a way of changing how we approach everything else.

When Jesus sets us free, we don’t have to live weighed down by pressure. We can walk through each day with confidence, knowing He is with us every step of the way.

A Simple Prayer

Jesus, thank You for the freedom You give that reaches far beyond our circumstances. When life feels overwhelming, remind me that my worth isn’t found in how much I accomplish but in being Your child. Help me make room for Your presence each day so I can live from Your peace instead of pressure. Amen.
